For camping enthusiasts, the Lake Maroon Camping Ground offers a unique family-friendly experience, situated on the south side of Maroon Dam. As you descend the mountains to the lake's edge, you'll be greeted by diverse bush scenery, wildlife, and breathtaking views.

The bass fishing in Lake Maroon is renowned, making it a hotspot for anglers.

The lake, surrounded by private land, offers recreational activities like, motor boating, water skiing, jet skiing, SUP, canoeing, kayaking and fishing (with a permit).

Enjoy a picnic at Fred Haigh Park with its breathtaking views of Mt Greville, Mt Alford, and Main Range National Park. 

Take a stroll across the Moogerah Dam wall, a short but enjoyable walk with captivating views of boats, turtles, and soaring hawks.

For those seeking a refreshing swim, head to Reynolds Creek Gorge below the dam wall, where you'll find a recreation area with BBQs, picnic tables, and a shaded spot to cool off.

Remember to follow leash rules for dogs, and respect the designated areas to preserve the lake's wildlife.

Lake Wyaralong is a beautiful spot northwest of Beaudesert. It's a relatively new dam, built in 2011, and it's one of the few places in Australia where you can enjoy recreational activities on a dam that supplies drinking water.

Enjoy a relaxing picnic or cook up a feast at the Meebun Recreation Area. There are picnic tables, shelters, and even a playground for the kids. 

For the thrill-seekers, mountain bike trails weave through eucalyptus forests, offering adrenaline-pumping descents and challenging climbs.

Hikers can conquer scenic tracks, with panoramic vistas as their reward.

Curtis Falls, Tamborine National Park

Keep an eye out for basking turtles, fish, and even the elusive platypus. At night, witness the magical glow-worms in the surrounding cliffs.

Nature enthusiasts can also spot basking turtles on fallen logs, observe fish and eels in the rock pool, and if lucky, catch a glimpse of the elusive platypus.

As the sun sets, the cliffs come alive with glow worms, creating a magical display. It's a tranquil retreat where swimming is restricted to protect the local habitat.

Please note:  Swimming is not allowed here to protect the habitat of platypus and glow worms.

 

Elabana Falls, Lamington National Park

Elabana Falls isn't just another pretty waterfall; it's a highlight of Lamington National Park and a top choice for nature lovers. Nestled in the lush rainforest, this cascading beauty attracts visitors for its stunning scenery and refreshing atmosphere.

The walk to Elabana Falls is part of the longer Box Forest Circuit (10.9 km, 4 hours), but you can reach the falls directly via a shorter track.

Take the track towards Canungra Creek, and soon you'll be rewarded with the sight and sound of cascading water. The upper tier boasts a striking horsetail waterfall, while the lower section tumbles down in a gentle cascade.

If you're feeling adventurous you can clamber over the rocks near the top of the lower cascade for a unique perspective and a cool mist on your face.

 

Cedar Creek Falls, Mt Tamborine

Cool off this summer at Cedar Creek Falls, a popular spot for swimming on Mount Tamborine. It's just a quick walk from the parking lot, so you can skip the long hikes and dive straight into the fun.

Here, the water's always refreshing, even on the hottest days, making it the perfect escape from the summer heat. Plus, the paved path to the lookout is stroller and wheelchair friendly, so everyone can enjoy the view.
