A Brief History of Beechmont

Beechmont's past is rooted in its name, derived from the plentiful White Beech trees that once flourished here. In the 1800s, the area attracted timber cutters due to these trees, leading to the town's original name, Beech Mountain.

However, due to high demand, the White Beech population dwindled significantly, making them a rare sight today. Despite changes over time, Beechmont retains its old-fashioned charm seen in its architecture and strong community ties.

The area has a rich Indigenous heritage with the Yugambeh people having long inhabited this land, influencing the town's character.

Historical sites like Binna Burra Road: Binna Burra Cultural Landscape and the Beechmont Church (formerly St John's Presbyterian Church) provide glimpses into Beechmont's heritage.
